ABOUT US
The fund was originally established to give USLI employees the opportunity to request donations to charities and causes to which they have a personal connection. In 2012, the fund was officially reorganized as a 501(c)3, which allows us to make an even greater philanthropic impact.
In addition to employee-driven causes, we also raise funds for larger causes selected by USLI, shown below. The CARE² Fund has helped us donate over $10 million to various causes over the years, with no administrative cost being deducted from funds raised.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Breastcancer.org is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide up-to-date medical information to those impacted by breast cancer so they can make the best choices for their future. The organization is the world’s leading online resource for breast cancer information. We donate 1% of USLI’s new business premium to Breastcancer.org during October and advocate for breast cancer awareness and education by running an online auction with items donated by USLI’s customers, law firms and employees, in addition to other fundraising events. Join us every October for 1 Month, 1 Percent, 1 Fight.
HAITI OUTREACH
USLI works with Clean Water for Haiti to provide water filtration systems to families in Haiti. Over 50% of deaths in Haiti are caused by waterborne diseases. From 2015 to 2018, USLI teams traveled to Haiti to install BioSand Water Filtration Systems in Haitian homes as well as water houses, which provide clean drinking water to entire villages. Our trips provided fresh water for many people, as well as employment for around two dozen Haitians. The unemployment rate in Haiti is over 40%. We’ve made an ongoing commitment to make a greater impact in Haiti by encouraging our local community to join our efforts over the next 5-10 years. Moving forward, we will focus our efforts on employing Haitians full time to contract and deliver BioSand filters for Haitians in need. So far, USLI has affected the lives of over 100,000 Haitians, and we are excited to continue to expand these efforts.
OTHER INITIATIVES
Since 2007, we have partnered with the United Nations Foundation’s United to Beat Malaria (formerly known as Nothing But Nets) campaign to raise money for bet nets, indoor pesticide sprays, vaccines, medications, etc. to send to families in Africa to protect them from malaria, which is the leading killer of children in Africa. Every $10 donated saves four lives.
We’ve also organized special events around the holiday season for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which provides toys to economically disadvantaged children. This year, we sent over 6,500 toys to families in need.
Each year, we create a team of walkers, runners and bikers for the Eagles Autism Challenge benefiting the Eagles Autism Foundation. The Eagles Autism Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for innovative research and care programs. By providing the necessary resources for doctors and scientists at leading institutions, the Eagles Autism Foundation can assist those currently affected by autism as well as future generations. The Eagles Autism Challenge aims to inspire and engage the community to provide much-needed support to make a lasting impact in the field of autism.
Each year, USLI creates a cycling team to support the National MS Society and those living with multiple sclerosis at the Bike MS City to Shore event. With the fundraising support of each cyclist, the National MS Society can continue its work of tackling the complex challenges of MS. The National MS Society offers one-to-one MS Navigator® support, advocacy that drives systemic change, a network of resources and information that helps people affected by MS feel more in control and less alone.
